Fire Safety Advice for Seniors
Each year in the U.S. over 1,200 senior citizens die in fires. Many of these fire deaths could have been prevented. Seniors are especially vulnerable because many live alone and often can't respond quickly to a fire.

- Visit or call the Union-Synder Agency on Aging to find out about local groups that may also be able to help.
- Make an escape plan, think about how you can get out of your home and make sure the way out isn’t blocked.
- If you live in an assisted living facility or a nursing home, ask your landlord or caretakers to explain the safety plans for the premises and make sure you know your nearest route to safety.
